Job Description:
The mentor coordinator for the New Haven Science Fair Program oversees the student mentoring in the Program in coordination with New Haven Public Schools Science Coordinator.
This includes mentor recruitment, conducting briefing meetings with mentors, matching mentors with teachers and schools through the Science Supervisor, and generating monthly reports for the Steering Committee.
The Mentor Coordinator attends monthly New Haven Science Fair Steering Committee meetings, oversees and recruits the SRC (Scientific Review Committee, whose role it is to ensure the safety of projects).
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Oversees mentor program with Science Fair project manager, including matching students and mentors, and facilitates and manages communications with teachers and mentors.
Evaluation of the Mentor-Teacher Relationship is the responsibility of the Mentor Coordinator and providing direction and remediation in each relationship to a successful outcome should be the mentor director's ultimate goal.
Handles logistics and information including timeline reminders and teacher/mentor resources to mentors and participating teachers in the mentor program, recommended changes to the website and coordination of mentor appreciation luncheon.
Attends required regular meetings of the New Haven Science Fair Steering Committee of which the Mentor Coordinator is a member.
Provides coordination with Science Supervisor for support of Family Science Nights.
Assists with Science Fair preparation.
Must be available during the week of New Haven Science Fair, in May, Dates TBD.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Familiarity with New Haven Public School system Comfort with community including ability to work with graduate students, professors, and administrators Excellent communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
Google Classroom.
Ability to interact effectively with mentors, students, teachers, school administration, and business community.
Proven organizational skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple projects and processes simultaneously.
Prefer strong science background Compensation:
$8,000.
00 for the term.
Payable in monthly installments, upon receipt of monthly report.
